I did this to my friends. I waited for him and my other friends to go mining, then set the roof up with lava, then went mining with them. I did it wrong and the house set fire. They saved the game and we came back, but the house was barely there. Just lava. He saved it after the house burned down without knowing. I lost 4 friends that day. It was 100% worth it. Their reactions were fantastic. They all used the same house, so I technically burned down 4 houses. They did take me off their friends list. I never met them before. I don't regret it at all. Thank you Gavin for the best Minecraft trolling video ever.
