so Is the X at the end of a text a London thing because I’ve never seen anyone do that in a text and I’ve never done it.

So the X's in texts are basically like the heart meter in Stardew Valley? That sounds useful as hell.

When I say no problem, it's usually to denote that it was indeed not an issue and I acted as such because I thought it was the correct way to do so. I normally only reply; "You're welcome!" when the other person was a prick or just void of most emotion during the interaction.

Why do we have to say "happy holidays" to be "inclusive"? Just say what ever you celebrate "merry christmas", "happy hanukkah", "happy kwanzaa", "yatzee" or what ever the fuck it is you celebrate and respond with what ever your celebrate. e.g."merry christmas"-"happy hanukkah". No one needs correct anyone or be "inclusive". If a christian tells a muslim "God bless you", they dont say "No im muslim". They just say "Allah be with you" and carry on. Just do what ever floats your boat and stop correcting people for not being the same as you.

FUCK YOU CRISPY BACON HATERS!!!!!!! Also thanksgiving in America is supposed to represent when the Native Americans saved the pilgrims from starvation, who later slaughtered all the Native Americans who saved them. You should look at history.com rather than Wikipedia.

Personally I'm okay with people saying any of the options for the holidays this month. None of them have bad intentions, they're all just nice sayings that pretty much say "have a good day/month".

"J" was indeed the last letter to be added to the indo-european linguistic system (basically every language rooted in the old world from Europe through Asia into India shares a kind of basic linguistic root and runs on the same kind of grammar in the simplest sense). "J" did not enter the scene until the early medieval period. Every ancient word that we now pronounce with a "J" originally had an "i" or "y" in its place. Julius Caesar was "Iulius Caesar," Jacob was "Yaakov" or "Iakobos," Jerusalem was "Yerushalaem" in Hebrew, ""Ierusoluma" in Greek (more properly Ιεροσόλυμα), or "Ierusalem" in Latin.

I wish people a merry Christmas. I do not think it is exclusive. There are  atheists, agnostics and Jews that celebrate it. It has become an American holiday. You do not need to be Christian to celebrate it. So why is it considered exclusive

I'm okay with "the finger" as a non verbal if someone is saying one second, but if they thrust it out like in the podcast it feels more aggressive and superior. To use the full palm stop something would have to be an incredibly important to me in that I didn't want it potentially interrupted at all.

in australia girls tend to put x's at the end of messages as well but only really in group chats, when we're organising to do something, we're asking someone for something or when we talk to a girl we dont know that well.

what i can tell from my male friend's use of them, guys only use x's when tuning (talking to/flirting with) someone or as a joke/sarcastically.

FIRED FOR SAYING MERRY CHRISTMAS. are you fucking serious. i don't have any issues with people saying happy holidays. i do have an issue with people having an issue with saying merry Christmas. its the holiday most people who live in america celebrate. its natural to say it. if someone said happy Hanuka i wouldn't have an issue with it. this is so stupid. whats the issue. fucking firing someone over it is the dumbest thing i have heard.

I'm a graduate student doing medicinal chemistry. I'm working on a prostate cancer treatment. I work 70 hours a week for a stipend of 22k a year. The house version of the tax bill raises my taxes 300% by treating my tuition waiver as taxable income without being able to write it off as if I paid tuition. There is a lot of stupid stuff in the bill, but this one seems designed to turn the US into a third world country. A lot of US scientists are planning on leaving because of this and funding cuts, and they're making it more difficult to get a H1-b "genius visa" making it harder for foreign scientists to enter the country. What happens to a country that no longer has people making technological advances when the rest of the world continues to advance?

that kinda shows how well Sweden is doing after accepting a socialized state, even if everything is "free" someone has to pay for it and often (as in Britain in the latter half of the 20th century) the state has to borrow or print more money, both devalue the native currency and eventually you have to implement austerity measures similar to the UK now to get rid of a massive debt or to subsidize industry to revitalize your economy.

Scuba diving instructor here (can provide proof if requested) - I taught and guided diving in a cold country where gloves were required - the lack of mobility you'd get from gloves is better than the lack of mobility you get from fingers so cold they go stiff. Clearly Ellie has just been diving in tropical or temperate waters.

Ellie, take a trip to Scotland and do some dives up there next time you're in the UK, I've heard it's beautiful and you'll learn to appreciate not wearing a drysuit or at the very least several layers of neoprene.

i dont feel you have a lack of mobility if you get nice-fitting drygloves its just like my own hands.. love it.. i actually dont like diving without gloves..

I'm generally a wetsuit diver and don't dive with a drysuit a lot, but one of the reasons I like neoprene gloves so much is that you can take them off if you need to underwater.

They have kind of established in the movies that Thor and the Asgardians are aliens more than they are gods. Just because they exist doesn't confirm an afterlife in the MCU.

I work as a research diver in New Hampshire and Ellie is sort of right about wearing gloves. I wear 5-7 mm thick neoprene gloves and they are hard to deal with sometimes since I work with my hands a lot but I don't really notice them anymore. In 45 degree water, I can't go without them or take them off. Picture wearing gloves in the winter. Must be nice getting to dive in warm water!

My main focus is the habitat and community structure off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire, like how the species of algae has changed over the years and how it's affecting the species living on and around the algae. I do a lot of deep sea coral and sponge research as well as a little tropical coral research. Just a bit of everything I guess haha
