The Edamame Power Play

RT Animated Adventures: The Edamame Power Play

Burnie and Matt go on a business lunch with a guy, who, for some unknown reason, starts eating edamame husks out of the discard bowl. Maybe it's some kind of power play? I dunno, but it would gross me out, that's for sure.

I did that by accident once. The first time i ever atr Edamame no one told me they weren't like pea pods, and you couldn't eat the shell, so I put the whole thing in my mouth, and immediately realized my grave error. I didn't want to spit it out in front of the others so I just buckled down and swallowed the whole thing.

That was the best animation so far for a RTAA. Something about how fast paced it was and the posing was actually the best so far :) Awesome work

He probably ate one without realizing you weren't supposed to, and then just kept eating them to save face. He was committed.

Like Joel and his bowl of Bac-o-bits. He realized he fucked up after the first bite but now he's got an audience so he has to go through with it. Joel has no problem looking crazy if he doesn't look stupid.

I didn't know edamame wasn't a popular thing outside of Hawaii and Asia.

In restaurants, it's usually just in Japanese restaurants where I live. I can get it from regular supermarkets though, as well.

i used to eat melon skins all the time, cause we got them for snack at after school club, and tit was always cut into cubes, but with the skin left on, and no one told me for a long long time that you weren't actually meant to eat that part

Actually a local restaurant here used to serve pickled melon rinds off their salad bar. People around here love them.

A family friend of mine (an actual Japanese person no less); her son does the same. Eats the shell as well for some reason. I had more or less the same reaction as Bernie and Matt

This reminds me of the time I was eating Hot Tamales for the first time. I wasn't supposed to eat the corn shell, but I didn't know until after I ate it. My siblings got a belly laugh out of it.

Been there as well. I also remember the first time I saw whole jalapeños, I asked my parents what these things were and both of them just said try it, didn't even answer my question.

On a different note, are the edamame pods toxic, or are they just inedible because of the texture?

They taste ok, they're just very fibrous and a bit chewy, like a snow pea but tougher

I went to this tiny sushi joint in Sydney and they brought out a little bowl of 3 or 4 for me while I waited for my order. I didn't realise you weren't supposed to eat the pods until after I'd left!

Never had edamame before.  If I ever have it in the future, I now know how to eat it.  Is edamame good?
