Aw Geoff, the most commonly used verbs are almost always the irregular verbs.  This holds true for almost every language. "To be," "to have," "to go," and "to do."

I really wish they wouldn't censor their videos. i mean, you'd think they'd leave it for us paying members. can anyone who saw the live stream tell me what it says? its ruined now that its censored. this is thought police. wake up sheeple. ugh gosh. you need to rerelease this video with it uncensored so that only i can watch it so i can know what you are trying to cover up.

I'm just kidding, great video! those out-of-the-blue multiple choice questions throw me off everytime.

I know you were joking, but just in case anyone else has a similar complaint (and isn't joking), I just want to mention that most of the time the things that are blurred out in videos like this aren't anything bad or raunchy - more often than not it's probably personal information like names, addresses and phone numbers, or spoilers for upcoming episodes and shows. So you're not missing out on anything salacious, I promise.

    • Orrenman FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Don't Call it a Comeback

lol i forgot i wrote this. i guess i was in a snarky mood.

absolutely. whenever something is blurred, it's blurred for a very good reason, and like you say, 9 times out of 10 its because they want to keep some things private/close to their chest.

TL;DR i'm grumpy about these things.

let me just throwing this out into the aether, though; if they believe bad or raunchy/gratuitous/nasty/inappropriate language (regardless of whatever  -ism or -ist it may fall into) would take away from the enjoyability of their video, that's as good a reason as any for them to censor it.

there are atleast two views about this in content creation it seems, 1) everything and the kitchen sink, meaning everything is available for content and there are no limitations i.e. no censorship; and 2)  carefully crafted curated messages, where the jokes come out of the limitations of the script/universe, i.e. if our characters are not racist, we don't/can't say racist things. RT has always fallen into the latter.

Besides, if i'm watching a let's play and Gavin, for example, types something thats blurred out, A) that's not the sort of character that he/AH mean for him to be acting, and B) if i knew what it was and it offended me, i probably would like him less, i may even stop watching.

i'd rather enjoy a perfectly censored fun, positive, and entertaining facade of Gavin and the rest of RT than to risk ruining that for the sake of the uglier aspects of reality that are everywhere else.

eh, sorry for long directionless spiel, but i think there really is a disconnect here between the values that i have and the values that others have about censorship. that's fine. but i reserve the right to poke a little fun of it.

Or school is intended to throw all this information at you so that eventually one of those many things stick to you and you decide i want to do that for a living. Also there are people like my self who like knowing as much about everything as they possibly can and school is great for that.

    • PaIeBIueDot FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

School isn't about a bunch of random knowledge at all. It is all about teaching you to think, intelligently approach problems, etc. There is of course tons of knowledge thrown at you; however, it is not for the purpose of memorization. Like @GreyGhost9036 said, all that most individuals need is one subject, one concept, to stick.

    • Gamer3427 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold taC terceS

I can agree with both what @GreyGhost9036 and @PaIeBIueDot said, but at the same time, I'm willing to bet that most people who didn't go into a specialized field don't use anything they learned beyond basic math and reading. Half the people I've met can't even use those properly. I'm the kind of person who loves knowledge in general, but I'll say that at least with the US Education system, especially in areas outside of major cities, it doesn't really promote critical thinking or using intelligence. It tends to promote cram memorization that you will forget immediately, and sports. I went to school in a rural area, and there was barely even the facade of attempting to teach after about fifth grade. I had plenty of times with teachers who didn't care about what work was done or how well it was done, they would show favoritism and punish those who weren't their favorites. I had one time in middle school where two of the teachers would go off to flirt with each other in the middle of class while we were told to take notes off the projector, when said notes wouldn't even appear on the tests. Another time in high school, (at a completely separate school in the same district), one of the teachers had been giving the worst student in the class high grades constantly because he was sleeping with her, and it came out at the end of the year but he was allowed to pass anyhow while she was fired. The US education system is almost literally about keeping up appearances, rather than helping students to have any form of higher intelligence or discover what they want to do in life. Most of the people I knew in school either went off to college for things they had discovered a passion for outside of school, or just joined the military because they didn't know what else to do with their lives. It may be different in other parts of the country, but I've never heard so from people I've known all across the US.......

@Gamer3427 You make a great point; my illustration fits that of a hypothetical and optimal education system. Common Core has unfortunately done a horrendous job of sculpting a working framework. I was lucky enough to attend a private school, so I never truly had to deal with a multitude of standardized tests and pure memorization. It is rather unfortunate that a nationwide program has a focus on all that is quantifiable (grades, test scores, etc) as opposed to actual learning.

as a teacher, the facts and tests really aren't our goal. we want to teach you critical thinking and how to express yourself but we have to show progress. so right now schooling is in a very learn to take tests situation because money. we want to teach you the joys of learning, of discovery, of solving a problem on your own. we want to help expand your minds, not make you memorize which wavelength is bigger or that tundra is one of the many biomes on our planet. we want to teach you what you are interested in but we have requirements and curriculum set by the school districts and state governments, which are based on how to get the best scores in state and nation wide testing. because again, money.

like with how literacy is taught in schools. reading and writing are pushed on three and four year old when their brains aren't even in the correct state to understand. hell, they might not even have developed the fine motor skills to attempt writing. and studies show that once out of the ego stage of development, literacy comes very quickly. but we waste time teaching preschoolers to hold a pencil and memorize the alphabet when the best way is to just let them draw and read to them. the american school system is ass backwards and even us teachers know it. many of us are sorry we can't change it, I know I sure I am.

    • Gamer3427 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold taC terceS

@inryoku I know I may have given examples of poor teachers, but I know I don't blame teachers as a whole for the way the education system is. I was more trying to show that the way the education system in the US has become, produces the sort of system where teachers can function in such a manner with little to no consequences, and where efforts aren't made to rectify such behavior in favor of the benefit of the students. I did also have several teachers throughout school who genuinely tried to teach and make for a better learning experience, but most had clearly either been worn down by the way things were handled to where they had given up, or simply didn't care to begin with and only viewed it as a job.......

The way the education system as a whole is built, it doesn't seem to have any focus on improving minds, as much as having a statistic to say "we educated this many people". In my opinion, while I can't say that it was much better before this due to being too young at the time, the point where it all went to go particularly wrong was the introduction of the No Child Left Behind Act, and the implementation of standardized testing. The intent was good in theory, to improve education on all levels, but in practice it made it so that the education system focuses on catering to the bottom rung of students and focusing purely on having them and everyone else temporarily memorize information. This in turn makes it so that it's almost impossible for students with above average intelligence to learn anything, or make use of their skills, and for teachers to deviate from the "this will be on the state test" curriculum unless they teach a purely optional class. Even optional classes, many teachers aren't incentivized to care, as they still end up just having to show on test scores how "this many students are passing"......

It tends to create a spiral where teachers who enjoy teaching for the idea of improving learning capabilities are punished by being forced to stick to a curriculum, and teachers that couldn't care less and are just there for the paycheck are rewarded so long as they meet the minimum requirements expected from test scores. Meanwhile the less intelligent students are having their grades artificially bolstered by tests that focus on temporary memorization and guesswork, (due to most being multiple choice), and the more intelligent students are given no incentive to pay attention in class or care about their grades due to the courses being far too easy. I don't consider myself highly intelligent by any means, and yet I passed all of school with high "A"s, despite the fact that I would literally be reading books half the time in classes and ignoring the teacher, or playing video games on my calculator, (Ti-84 calculator), or even just flat out sleeping......

All in all, let's just say that I'm not a fan of the US education system in the slightest. With how it's run, you're more likely to find proper education from Youtube videos, Google, and Wikipedia than you are from the highest levels of learning that aren't specialized for a certain field. And that is a very sad statement for so many reasons......

@ofearlia Actually no, the months are in the same time of year as they always were. March used to be the beginning of the year, as it's a time of rebirth. It's when they conducted the census (therefore Jesus would've actually been born in February or March and Christmas being in December is bullshit) and also when the Romans went to war because they didn't have to walk through snow. Mars the god of war, March the month, and march as a verb (and of course martial) are all related, I think in that order.

So yeah. The sept- oct-  nov- deca- thing is still true, but they didn't get moved ahead. What we consider the beginning of the year just got moved back.
