Reminded by Gus's talk of alcohol in South Korea, it's fairly cheap in Japan as well. Granted, beer (or at least the beers I've liked), have been fairly expensive. Liquor has been nice and cheap, though.

For the Hollywood Stars, you have to apply and get approved THEN pay $30,000 which goes into a fund that pays for the upkeep of the sidewalk. It was originally not required but after they realized how much upkeep is required, they started asking stars to pay for it. You do not have to pay (as far as I know) to apply but there are five major categories: film (motion pictures), television, music, live performance/theater, and radio. Unfortunately, I do not think Gus falls under any of these categories due to Rooster Teeth being a primarily internet production, but more on the application process....

Once you are approved for a star, you may not get it that year. You will often be placed on a list that says you are approved and you will often get your star when it coincides with a major event (movie promotion, event promotion, etc;). Some people are also offered a star if they are considered an icon (Julia Roberts) but these stars can deny receiving the star (also Julia Roberts).

People do get denied for stars on the Hollywood walk of fame. There was a pretty funny episode of Kathy Griffin's reality show where she applies, starts telling reporters that she is going to have one, and then gets denied.

Red dwarfs are not necessarily old stars; the simply are very long-lived, being very dim and small - and can potentially live hundreds of billions of years.

(TLDR: Basically, everything you need to know about a star is determined by its mass and, to a much lesser extent, the %age of elements heavier than helium in the cloud it formed from. The smaller a star is when it is born, the colder, redder, dimmer, and longer-lived it is. The bigger it is, the hotter, bluer, brighter, and shorter-lived it is. These run by power-laws, so - roughly - the star twice as massive as another burns 10x as bright, but lives 15% as long.)

As such, the oldest stars in the universe are red dwarfs, because they're the only ones left from that epoch, all the others having died off; but every new star-forming region produces new red dwarfs, lots of them, so they can be quite young as well.

The stars at the end of their lives are red *giants*, not dwarfs. These are stars that have run out of hydrogen in their core, and have collapsed to much higher densities and temperatures until they began to burn helium. The way the envelopes of stars conduct heat outward from their cores causes the radius and temperature difference between the surface and core to track linearly, so when the star gets extremely hot in its core, it has to puff out to gigantic radius to conduct that heat out to its surface.

Stars born extremely large are blue giants, and don't generally go through a red giant phase before blowing to hell.

/grad level structure & evolution of stars class finally coming handy after 20 years...

Woo! Thanks for the shoutout Podcast Crew! Completely unexpected and an awesome surprise as I sit here putting the finishing touches on this week's answer post.

For those who have been asking, the answers post are posted weekly, usually Thursday/Friday on the Poppycock group. The post show answers are usually posted the following day.

A lot of time my posts end up raising more questions (er... debates) so highly suggest reading through and commenting about how wrong I am. It is a lot to research, I can't be 100% right 100% of the time  smirk

In regards to the Hatch vs Anaheim Pepper talk,

The peppers were originally in New Mexico and then brought to California in the late 19th century. Hatch green chile (or more generically, chile grown in New Mexico) can be grown much hotter than Anaheim Peppers and is the biggest difference between the two peppers. "Hatch" is a branding but chile from Hatch, New Mexico is well known for their consistently hot chile.

Just to play devil's advocate about what Burnie says about getting elected as a Politician.  Can't you consider getting hired for a job as the same concept? If you don't get hired you won't have a job.

Elections are essentially a hiring process with a much larger committee

I had a blowgun when I was about 15. It was about 2 in the morning, I was target practicing, as is typical at that time. I was simultaneously watching Top Gear on my bed. The blow guns are muzzle loaded, so that we genius operators can't inhale a 3 inch long metal dart. If you inhale, you can safely pull the dart to the mouth piece, and under gravitational  acceleration, it pokes into your hand in an intriguing way. Not painful, but similar in addictiveness to picking a scab. I was alternating between dropping the dart on my hand, watching Top Gear, and occasionally removing my hand and firing the dart into my bed. (Don't ask why...please...) At any rate, eventually, my concentration lapsed and I fired the dart directly through the center of the cartilage of my middle finger on the last joint. No one was up, the first aid supplies were in my parent's room and there was no way I was waking them up. Turns out, it doesn't hurt at all to have a thin metal rod through your finger joint, so I pulled out my Motorola Razr (so cool at the time) and snapped a few pictures, before learning how difficult it is to pull something out of cartilage, especially if that cartilage is your own. Overall, it was an interesting experience. nearly painless as well, it looked brutal. I'm sad I don't have those pictures anymore.

From Wikipedia: "While Joanne Woodward is often singled out as the first to receive a star on the Walk of Fame, in fact there was no "first" recipient; the original stars were installed as a continuous project, with no individual ceremonies. Woodward's name was one of eight drawn at random from the original 1,558 and inscribed on eight prototype stars that were built while litigation was still holding up permanent construction. The eight prototypes were installed temporarily on the northwest corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in August 1958 to generate publicity, and to demonstrate how the Walk would eventually look. The other seven names were Olive BordenRonald ColmanLouise FazendaPreston FosterBurt LancasterEdward Sedgwick, and Ernest Torrence."

Gav, red dwarfs are the most common type of star. They are very low mass stars that have low temperature and lose energy much slower (and at lower frequencies) than heavier stars. They are estimated to be very long lived, radiating for trillions of years, Depending on their mass, they could become red giants (like our sun will) or (theoretical) blue dwarfs, then white dwarfs, and then black dwarfs.
