FYI RT just perpetuated USTA's insult to German's by calling their actual Anthem as a whole "Nazi." The verses for the German Anthem are almost as old as the Star Spangled Banner and like the American anthem only one stanzas is used. Under the Weimer Republic and then Nazi Germany there was a emphasis for national pride so they only ever used the first verse. And today the third verse is sung for a number of reasons, primary because it is the official verse, just you like wouldn't sing any of the three other stanza's of Star Spangled. However, the song as a whole (first verse included) is not Nazi. It's just improper to sing anything else, and the third verse emphasizes the direction Modern Germany see's itself and where it relates to the world as a move away from the regime under the Nazi's where Germany was the only nation in this world that mattered. But all countries were/are like that. But like any other country Germany is still very much prideful in itself, but instead of it being the center of the world, it sees itself as apart of the world. While holding true to her national identify.

If someone should care about the German anthem thing -

The anthem originally has 3 stanzas, which were all used as the official German anthem since 1922. However, the Nazis misused the first and second stanzas, propagandising German superiority with the lyrics of the song, which is why after WW II the government prohibited the use of the first two stanzas and made the third one the anthem, since it has anti-fascist lyrics, striving for a democratic and free a country (which the composer initially intended to say, when he wrote the song in the 19th century).

At the tennis match, they unfortunately sang the first stanza...

Well with the way things are going in the US. Our president is a professional wrestler/business man who legitimately asked how to put a travel ban on Muslims, is trying to get another country to pay for a US construction project that will have ZERO impact on immigration simply because most illegal immigrants don't run across the border they FLY into the states and just slip past everyone. Not to mention if we shutdown all immigration we are looking at a rapid destabilization in the economy simply because a business will simply outsource so they can make more money. The US is not what it once was.

At this point I can't blame anyone at all for being political. ESPECIALLY after the press conference today where Trump gets asked about a Russian War Plane buzzing a US destroyer and all he has to say is. "Its bad" and proceeded to talk about what his reputation would be like if he went one way or another. I think everyone has a right to be political at this point. If we don't talk about it, we might as well stick our heads in the dirt and let politicians do whatever they want.

You mistake me. Being political isn't the issue.  In fact I wish Bernie was more political, he speaks with a measure, understanding, and sense of wisdom when he does.  Does anybody remember his terrorism rant? That was one of the most moving things I've heard from a comedian since Robbin Williams.  Jack however has little to say that isn't embittered sarcasm.

To put it into a hypothetical, most rooster teeth employees, when getting political,  say, "Trump is bad." Jack says, "Lets go rape someone because according to Trump its ok." I may be embellishing for dramatic effect, but unfortunately I'm not embellishing all that much.

Funny you talk about the travel ban with trump when it was originally Obamas thing. Trump just signed it. Personally; think that's much better then dropping 23k bombs on innocent civilians like Obama did. Also the wall would stop from Coyotes (people who import and export illegal goods and people) from being able to do their thing. Oh and the "Muslim ban" for some reason didn't ban any of the top 10 muslim population or percentage counties. Only the ones that had high terrioristic views according to Obama. But people like to bash on Trump and I get it; he's unorthodox. But he did manage to make the best gun laws ever, hes created thousands of jobs already (without spending 9 trillion cause anyone can make jobs wasting that much money nearly doubling the debt) and as an international college student from India; he's increased the days from 60 to 90 days we can stay in the country after our work H-B1 ends along with within a year it's gonna nearly double our salary after his new plans on internationals go through where it's based on merit like how Canada and many other nations do it. #TrumpsAmericaIsMyAmerica

I was told in school that the axis of the Earth was 23.5 degrees and as the Earth rotates around the sun it wobbles on its axis so some parts of the world are angled closer to the Sun which gives more intense sunlight because the sunlight has less distance to travel to those places of the earth. With the less distance that the light has to travel means less lost of the sunlight and heat.

Not sure if it is correct, haven't gone back to check.

Thank you - was just waiting to see how long it would take for someone to post this here. People aren't taking the time to read and understand what's going on and its as annoying as it is perpetuating the fear mongering. ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS DIFFERENT THAN LEGAL IMMIGRATION, sorry I had to yell as well :)

Also, it's perfectly fine for everyone to express their political opinions (we are in America after all, most places don't have free speech and it's something we take for granted). However, some people (definitely not JACK and Gavin, def not) aren't taking any time at all to take into account the reasons why people are happy that the previous administration is gone. I didn't vote for Trump and am not happy about everything going on, but as a Jewish person, Obama's pathetic diplomatic relations with the Israeli PM [the former pres. kept Netenyahu waiting for hours, and then served him a pork dinner at their first meeting], as well as the myriad economic proofs that I can show where Obama's policies have caused deadweight loss [ie job loss, higher taxes, price imbalances, etc.] in the economy, make me simply ecstatic to see the Obama administration gone, among other things. Just a little food for thought, not everyone here loves Obama any more than Trump. Maybe we can talk about video games or content production now??

with all this talk about how important it is now to discuss politics and act, you might think RT would also consider reviewing the language they use. listening to a discussion about all that and then immediately seeing a heart with the glittery word "fuckt*rd" in it is a little... conflicting. especially after AH expressing their discomfort around the alternative word for cigs. seems a bit, y'know, hypocritical. hope RT continues in this direction and start being more careful around these parts of their language - especially since the R-word and it's derivatives seem to be so common in RT content

Who the fuck care? There are things that you shouldn't say/talk about but, people need to be less fuckin sensitive. If it is directed at a certain group, sure but it never is. ALSO, Politic is a minefield that you just avoid on the internet.

calm down fam. and have you considered that it IS used against a particular group of people? that's kinda the point of those types of words

(and as a side note, saying "the current situation in our country isn't the best" isn't exactly a horrifyingly divisive statement. what world are you living in where nobody should discuss politics online? how do you think discussions are opened up?)

    • hypersonicspeed98 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Well, there's a little bit of difference between the two. Let me explain. While both can be potentially sensitive subjects, politics is much more widespread. What I mean by that is everybody has some opinion or stance on politics, whereas not everybody is sensitive to certain words. As a side note, if you're the kind of person who enjoys RT's content, you're probably not the type of person to be offended by the use of certain words. They have a long history of being rude and crude. Back to my main point, discussion of politics is almost guaranteed to create backlash among one or more (usually more) individuals, whereas crude language is less likely to do so. As to their avoidance of certain sensitive words and use of others, there's a bit of contextual difference. I have seen, as you put it, "the alternative word for cigs" used as a legitimate insult multiple times. Mostly, the insult held no merit, but sometimes it did hit home for the person being insulted. On the other hand, I have never seen the "R-word and its derivatives" actually hit home as an insult. It's always been used by idiotic teenage boys who can't think of a better insult. I have never seen it used to insult a mentally challenged person. In fact, all I have seen is to take great care to not use that word around them. Taking these, admittedly anecdotal, examples into account, it makes sense why one word would be used and the other wouldn't. One sees more legitimate use as a hurtful insult in everyday life. Now, as I said, these examples only come from my own personal experiences. Other people's experiences may vary, but hopefully you can use this as a different way to look at the issue.

    • syntheticanimal

hypersonicspeed98 (how do i tag people? can you do that? i very rarely actually comment on stuff)

i get what you're saying about politics. i suppose i'm the kind of person who really dislikes when people say particular content shouldn't be political. but i get what you're saying - when you're releasing content to an audience as varied as RT's, speaking about it can be risky. i agree on that. moving on,

i don't think i understand what you're trying to say about F and R (quicker to type). just because one word is used more flippantly doesn't mean it is any more acceptable. in the UK, F is used very rarely, and usually to refer to cigarettes. it has only very recently begun to carry the same weight as it does in america, so it's thankfully beginning to be used less. R, on the other hand, is treated pretty seriously. yeah, teenage boys use it when they can't think of a better insult, but those are teenage boys who still have learning and growing to do. i have honestly never met an adult in my life who hasn't reacted to it in shock. it's probably the main thing kids get told off for in school. i'm assuming the US isn't the same.

i think the issue here may be that while F is seen widely associated with hate speech, R is used so liberally that it's seen as a normal part of somebody's vocabulary. the R-word is a derogatory term used to excuse and condone hate and violence towards people on the autism spectrum, and with other learning disabilities and/or neurodevelopmental disorders. it's still a slur, no matter how often or in what context it is used.

and as a side note, i can watch RT content because i'm capable of overlooking these words, because i know how commonly they are used in america and how people are unaware of the weight they carry

(didn't expect one comment would end up getting any attention. maybe i should like, not do this next time)

Australia is located on the Tropic of Capricorn. So, during on their Summer Solstice (December 21) the sun is located directly over this tropic. It means they get more Sun exposure, and more direct sun rays at and around that time. This happens as a result of the Earth's tilt and rotation around the sun. During our Summer solstice (June 21) we have the most direct rays we get, but the sun is never directly over the US. The furthest North the sun goes is 23.5 degrees north, the Tropic of Cancer which runs through Mexico.

The Hitler comparison is , if I had to guess, almost entirely built on Trump and his staff making very authoritarian moves since taking over the presidency. To wit:

      * The first move of authoritarian governance is having a war with a clear enemy. Thus the travel ban and scare tactics meant to radicalize views against middle eastern Muslims, and Muslims in general.

      * The most important thing authoritarians must do is create a reality in which dissent from themselves is illegitimate. If dissent is just made up gibberish, then the public will accept the authority's word as gospel. Thus the rhetoric calling the 9th circuit justices "so-called judges" or dissenting press "FAKE NEWS." Neither of those things hold any merit, but the Trump admin's war on media is 100% an attempt to wrest control of the message from journalists and place it squarely in their own hands.

I'm also just not into this business of disapproving of Trump being an echo chamber. According to Pew Research, only 39% of Americans approve of the job he is doing as president. There's another side, but it's so much smaller than the one they're on that it warrants taking pause and wondering why that is. And in addition to that, I'm hearing the same rhetoric from both traditionally liberal and conservative journalists. This isn't normal, and I think it's important that people talk about that.

I may be alone in this sentiment, but I actually like to hear what they have to say about politics. Personally, I am an introvert living in a relatively rural and isolated area of the USA. While I don't believe the RTP should devolve into a political debate, I am interested to hear what these Americans, non-citizens working in America, business owners, parent, and rational human beings have to say about issues that effect them, myself, and millions of others. I'm not looking at them for political leadership or guidance, but I honestly wish there was a proper environment in the RT network that would allow me to hear how other brains react to major issues that effect everyone. It would be far more relatable than the travel podcast that RTP is now (hahaha, jk... but kinda not really).

A perfect example of this is when Barb and Gavin mentioned their feelings about traveling outside of the country. The only people I encounter regularly are naturally born citizens that don't travel much, so while their opinions still have merit, knowing how even one or two people that are in a category that might actually be effected by similar policies is very valuable to me.

I totally agree with you. I don't get people who want RT to be silent on political matters. It's not like they go overboard. If you're watching shows like RT Podcast and Off Topic, then you're basically joining in on a conversation "with friends" (y'know what I mean), and they're talking about their lives, etc. with some random topics and wacky shenanigans thrown in. We're spending a non-trivial amount of our time listening to what they have to say. Some of us even pay for the privilege.

And guess what? Politics affects their lives too. Barb and Gav's tenuous residence in the US is a great example. And frankly I understand if they're getting nervous about what's coming in the next few years. To the rest of the world, Trump's making menacing noises and gestures.

If you want to avoid politics entirely, go watch a basket-weaving podcast? Or, if the liberal "bias" is the concern, maybe go watch some other podcast with conservatives to balance it out. That's my two cents.

You could try Voice Actor for occupation, they might not flag you for that? But, then again, I've no idea.

You really don't know anything when you talk about politics it is embarrassing. I no longer enjoy liking watching the podcast anymore. please keep the politics out it is not the place and it's just spouting emotions no facts, it's only disruptive and unproductive.

in terms of australia having more sun because of a different tilt, the equator would have the most amount of sunlight and the farther away from the equator, the more intense the seasons change because they receive significantly less light during the winter, and australia is technically closer to the equator than america so it makes sense for them to receive more light and radiation.
