Empire Strikes Back IMO is the best movie. Saw the original in the theater (showing my age). The beginning when Han sliced open the Tauntaun and shoved Luke into the guts NASTY!!! When the doors open and Darth is standing at the head of the table in Cloud City HOLY SHIT!

The best line in any movie "I love you"....."I know..." ahhhhh, Harrison Ford...so dreamy....and the MEGA plot twist that everyone talked about until Return of the Jedi..., "No, I am your Father". No, no way, it was just too wrong, I refused to believe it but it turned out to be true. Yep, best movie ever.

I kinda wish Obi-wan hadn't killed Darth Mall until the second movie. (yes I know the clone wars has him, but I'm talking the movies alone) get rid of the dumb romance, and have Obi-Wan have to face him years later after killing his master, you could have a whole subplot about how Obi-wan is battling with his rage. Just saying, it could have been more interesting.

By the time I saw all three prequels I was around 10 years old. Those were the best movies ever, and I wont let anyone tell me any different. I saw the Original trilogy before watching all the prequels and I have to say those movies are amazing as well, and they blend perfectly with one another. I honestly don't see anything wrong with either trilogy.

Star Wars land at least at Disneyland is going to be behind toon town. The only thing that they are taking away is frontierland bbq restaurant and the petting zoo that is next to it. But yeah Disney bought a good amount of land that was behind toon town which they are adding to the land that used to act as their backlot.

I really like Kamino and Ewan McGregor's performance in 2.I think 1 is overall kind of meh - while 2 had some really good parts and really bad parts. So one is bleh, and the other is awful and cool at the same time. Really hard to pick which is better. But 3 absolutely is the best of the prequels. The writing wasn't as bad (sure it had its moments..) and it had (imo) great pacing. I don't hate any of them, but 3 is one that still holds up very well as an adult. I just watch the first one as a kid's movie, the second as a pre-teen movie, and the third as a Star Wars movie. They're much more enjoyable with that state of mind.

  • Kimothyy

Attack of the Clones IS worse than Phantom Menace. I've been doing a SW marathon (again) and I fell asleep during the second one because of just how bad it is. The good parts were in the last act of the movie and by the time we got there, I was ready to move onto the next movie. Also, growing up Return of the Jedi (Original Version on Laser Disc) was my favourite. The original end song too is the only one I really accept, although over the years the remastered end song has grown on me. But Empire Strikes back is a close second.

They couldn't talk about anything other then Star Wars...you talked enough about it in the regular podcast. We don't need a podcast and a half about Star Wars.

I usually am fine with criticism and get sick of the "then don't watch it" argument, but in this case I completely disagree. It's fine to say that someone wasn't funny or something, but I mean the whole post show was clearly a Star Wars discussion. If I didn't like Star Wars, then I wouldn't watch it. And they didn't even talk that much about Star Wars in the original podcast. It was like a 10-15 minute conversation. You could easily just skip it until they stopped talking about it.

Episode 1 is better than 2. The lightsaber battles are better; Liam Neeson is great; Ewan McGregor is good with what he's given; Palpatine is likeable as an evil characte; Padme has some depth and purpose (she's actively trying to protect her people); Darth Maul is awesome; CGI was limited and used in relatively smart ways; and Yoda was still a real and good looking puppet (at least until they released it on DVD; if I'm not mistaken they changed it to CGI for blu-ray release, another bad decision).

Episode 2 removes a lot of that. Liam Neeson is gone; Ewan McGregor is given worse lines but still manages to act it really well; Palpatine starts to be more annoying (capping it off in Episode 3 with "Yeah!" and "Do it" and "Help me, Anakin, I'm weak"); Dooku isn't nearly as cool as Maul; Padme's purpose is pretty much gone and she's reduced to watching from the sidelines for everything from taking care of herself, to deciding to marry, and to making a difference in the Senate (this is exemplified by her giving her position to Jar Jar); there's way too much use of CGI for everything (the landscape, the clones, the droids, Yoda, Jango whenever he does anything acrobatic); and of course Haden Christiansen's acting (given shitty material obviously but still didn't even try). Mace Windu and Obi-wan are pretty much the only consistent characters and actors throughout all 3 movies, though obviously Ewan McGregor was the star.

Yes episode 1 has way more Jar Jar; yes episode 1 has a headstrong 14 year old, might-as-well-be-his-babysitter queen developing a connection with a 9 year old; and yes said 9 year old says "Yippee!" too damn often, but at least episode 1 had more redeeming qualities than episode 2. If Captain Tarpals had replaced Jar Jar it would have been fine; if Anakin was played by Haley Joel Osment or if Jake Lloyd had better coaching it would have been fine; if the podracing was reduced it would have been fine. If any 1 of several things had been different it would have been a better movie and would be decently well regarded by fans. Episode 2 on the other hand takes the good stuff of Episode 1 and gets rid of it all.

Also, I say this as someone who still actively watches them when watching a star wars marathon. I don't avoid them. Yes they may have lots of bad qualities, many of which I am well aware of, but it's Star Wars and it's cool. I can shit on them all for hours on end but I still like them for the few redeeming qualities because they're Star Wars.

    • Kimothyy

I totally agree. I've been doing a SW marathon again just before it comes out next Thursday and I felt like every character in the first movie had more purpose and were fabulous in their acting ... Jar Jar aside. When you get to the second one, the things I noticed were Padme became a prop for a love story, instead of a head strong woman who knew what she wanted from her position and wasn't afraid to get it. There were so many moments in Ep 2 that were pointless and should have been cut out.

    • ZeroHowl FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

I hate to say it, but as much as I love Liam Neeson, Qui-Gon Jinn is not a great character. Ewan McGregor is okay in 1, but he shines though in 2 and 3 when he gets to play the master. Palpatine is better further into the prequel trilogy, because you can see his plan unfolding. Padmé... yeah, okay, Padmé makes the most sense in Episode 1, I'll give you that. And Darth Maul is awesome. I'm going to have to disagree with you on CGI though, it's everywhere, and it's bad everywhere, in all three prequels (although granted, 2 does have some of the worst instances). Having just watched a comparison video on YouTube, the animation gives Yoda a much wiser and emotionally able face. The puppet rings too much of the lost-it homeless Yoda from his first scene.

So yeah, you lose Neeson (I think for the best, Qui-Gon really is a flat character; and in Legends he's sort of lame). Those Palpatine lines are not great, although I think the last one works, it forces Anakin (of reasonable morals) to make a decision, and once he's made it, it doesn't matter that Palpatine was lying and manipulated him, because Anakin will just justify it to himself. Dooku is a bit of a let-down, but the recent Binks revelations have me thinking that's sort of our fault. But I'll give you that point, because as it stands, yeah, he's lacklustre. Padmé's purpose is gone, but she still kicks relative ass when she can. Hayden Christensen is not as bad as Jake Lloyd, and like they said, you can forgive him cause he was a kid, but that doesn't make the film better.

Your last paragraph you mention a bunch of changes that, had they happened, would have saved the film. And while I'm not entirely convinced that's true, it's besides the point. The film, as it stands, lacks those changes, and isn't as enjoyable or worthwhile as 2.

In terms of pro 2 points, it's cliché as all hell, but who doesn't love an arena fight? And finally seeing the 'Jedi army' as well as full scale clone-droid warfare. Sure it's all CG, but at the time that was (relatively) cutting edge. It may not hold up as well now, but neither do the original trilogy's effects, and no-one's demonising those. Jango Fett is great, and I think a better antagonist than Dooku, because he has character. He's better than Maul too. Not because Maul isn't badass, but because Maul is basically just a lackey for this shadowy figure. He has no character at all, let alone character development (I know Legends fleshes this out, but it's not in the film). Speaking of Legends, all the Trade Federation embargo business? That's strangely intriguing when described in Plagueis, but without the explanation, it's so dry. I will give you, most of the romance in 2 is painful to sit through, but I think it relatively redeems itself in other parts.

@UltraZero Sorry to nerd out about it, but Luke actually mentions it first in a conversation with Obi-Wan. He asks something along the lines of "You fought in the Clone Wars?" and Obi-Wan confirms it. Then the recording of Leia mentions it when she states that Obi-Wan is their only hope.
