"Who the fuck would want to see that shit" sorry guys.... that would be me., I mean when I was a teen, date night meant hanging out with my at the time girlfriend, cuddling on the couch with pizza....and watching faces of death. *shrugs*

I think we would go insane if we didn't go asleep.

I think the reason evolution never got rid of sleep was because most changes took place as we slept so it never thought to get rid of it.

    In case anyone is interested:
According to the RT youtube account, the least viewed uploaded video is Joel's "Mass Effect 3: Shepard is kind of a jerk".

Gus, if you throw a frisbee at an angle over 45, the wind often carries it back to you since its blowing against the entire bottom of the frisbee.

So a lot of stuff happens while you sleep, one of the main is putting your memories together and putting them into your long-term memory. We know what happens while you sleep, but no one knows why it has to happen while your asleep. So to answer your question RT, no one has your answer :)

Here's the thing. Everything sleeps but no ones figured out WHY we sleep, or why we NEED to sleep I guess.

not quite an internet acronym, but one I definitely misunderstood for awhile in high school was BA....people would say stuff like "Dude, that's B.A.!" and my brain was like "Bare Ass???" lol

"How do you do that?" Tipping a car on it's side...run into the vehicle in front of you, turn the wheel really hard (trying to avoid the accident). It also helps to have a top heavy vehicle. Unfortunately I learned this from personal experience. Left with some gnarly road rash scars (landed on the drivers side, broke the window with my left forearm).

I usually love listening to these podcasts twice, but the long sleep pill complaint here kinda irked me. Sleep is an active process, your brain is working much harder than when you say... watch TV.
If there WERE a pill for sleep, it would suck- like how we have pills that'll make you buff, but you don't take them because you enjoy having hair/testicles/clear skin/a normal voice. Although yeah, I would love to not sleep haha.

Burnie: Not that I want to be one of the douchebags that corrects you guys in that pompous way, but in defense of your friend, FTW was actually originally a biker term that did mean "Fuck the world." It was meant as an anarchist statement from gangs and preceded the newer internet meaning. Just in your friends defense though XD

Just wanted to correct you guys when you were talking about not being able to feel if something is really cold or hot, just knowing its bad and pulling your hand away.

Your body actually has different levels of nervous system control depending upon the task required. This includes different parts of your brain for motor control, pain or pressure sensation etc. You also have whats called a reflex arch which is a nervous system pathway that ends at your Central Nervous System, or your spine. This reflex arch controls all your sudden reflexes, so whenever you have a moment when you have a sudden reflex that you feel like you don't control, thats actually because you don't. For that reflex, those nerve signals actually ended in your spine and the central nervous system there shot back a sudden response which caused your reflex. This causes a much faster response than if you had the signal go to your brain first and then tried to think of a response.

Theres a lot more too it, but thats the basic's. You really don't need to know much more unless your a doctor or someone doing tests on someone's nervous system. I know this because I'm training to be a Podiatrist and we had to learn this because we do some back nervous system tests on people's feet and legs.

Dean Kamen actually created a group around 20 years ago called FIRST. FIRST is in charge of the FIRST Robotics Competition, which is for high school students. They have the students build a robot based on a game that changes every year. They have six weeks to build the robot, and after that teams compete against each other, and with each other on alliances.

Im going to have to disagree with Gavin as some ants sleep. They hibernate but its awesome because they go into a selfindused coma. HOW AWESOME WOULD IT BE TO DO THAT!

The point of sleeping is to run through all your thoughts and memories that were created that day, cataloging information so you can remember, but that only takes up too 4 hours a night

would so love to be able to evolve past sleep. There's technically studies that show humans coming close. Poliphasic sleep patterns, and there's some long ago memory from some psych class about certain great minds of our nations that just used to take 10 minute naps throughout the day and never sleep 8 hour intervals.

Javelin and shot-put need to be thrown at 45 deg because they don't produce lift, a Frisbee does produce lift because as it rotates the inertia makes the Frisbee act like a lifting surface. I don't know much about Frisbee but i do know about Lift as i am an Aerospace Engineer

    Im almost possitive that this is the weirdest thing that ive done;
For the past 3 years i have been taking the same bus getting off at the same stop, same routine etc. One day i get off the bus and doing my routine walking to the corner, that is several feet from the stop, preparing to cross, looking straight across the road and walk straight into a car that is on the sidewalk that had crashed. it was on the corner and i had just walked into it. Nobody in it and the owners were a few yards to the side looking at me funny. I mean this is a car that im almost double the height and walked right into the side of it. IT WAS SO WEIRD.

PS im sure nobody will acknowledge especially the staff

I've always been told sleep is used to slow down the body mechanics so oxygen can be focused on resupplying the brain properly so it can function 100%. Which is also connected to why we yawn when tired, it's the body trying to intake large amounts of oxygen to help supply the brain. 4 to 6 hours of sleep seems to be the best range but then i sleep about 10 hours and am usually quite awake.
