Had to come back and find this podcast, after some thought I believe Apple would be most interested in the moon land that is the largest area facing earth that would fit their apple logo, and not an inch more. They would want to gate that area, blacken the surface, and have a revolving billboard. Pretty sure that's the only part of the moon Apple would want unless they could buy all of the Earth facing moon land to blacken everything except the logo. We would look out at the night sky and see floating fruit circling us and suddenly feel the need to buy a new phone.

you guys are walking some dangerous political grounds here, you should probably step off the whole ireland-uk debate, especially since gavin is 1. an english guy, the most hated by other british cultures, and 2. all of you are american besides him. Not a very safe conversation

Ahh, body paralysis while sleeping. Sometimes the the body's sleep paralysis doesn't quite work properly. I once woke up in the middle of an elbow throw, stopped it just in time to keep from smashing my wife in the head. Two nights later, she has a dream with a big spider that she's trying to swat, and ended up smacking my ass.

I really wish the videos they talk about were on the link dump. Like the interview with Kara (sorry if it's misspelled) and Ben. I know I can search them but the I thought the point of the link dump was so I wouldn't have to.

arrested development was released on the only place that found it popular. netflix. it really didn't have a chance to become anymore popular to a new audience.

secondly, the entire series was released at the same time. the show might be a comedy, but a move like that leaves no room to desire future episodes. the subjective value of the show automatically plummets

Personally I love history, so I find it amusing when everyone talks about how much the British hate the French and how long it must have been going on, when the British are part French.

The British are like the medieval version of the American hodgepodge of races. They are part celtic, part roman, Anglo-Saxon, Norman(thus the french(normandy was a french province), who were originally a Germanic tribe). It makes sense how they would be the country who's colony lead to the USA's founding.

Also as a side note, if you want to go by age, the Scottish are the real Brits, they're a mix of Irish colonists, Picts(raiders who lived in northern Britannia which became Scotland), and the British tribes who fled Roman rule into Northern Britannia which became Scotland (the Irish heritage is where the kilts come from, the Scottish just held on to it longer than the Irish). The British keep getting mixed with newcomers over and over, with very little left of the old celtic tribes left in their blood mix.

i know burnie has a point re: england should teach its entire history - even the "negative" parts where britain lost (ie, the revolution), but i can't believe he's surprised. what does burnie know about the philippines? or cuba, even? does he know anything about puerto rico? that's not even really history. how much does burnie know about the wars we've lost - vietnam war, for example...does he know how we got involved in the korean war? i won't go so far as to say that it's okay that he doesn't know these things, but it's not his fault that no one taught him. my point is that no one taught us about our negative history, so it shouldn't come as such a surprise that other countries don't teach their own dark moments, either.

Speaking to short link dumps, I saw Burnie's phone case and immediately thought "I must have that". But they of course get sidetracked and with no mention of the case in the link dump I cannot find it online. Anyone have any idea who might make that case?

Gavin is right about the Pixar lamp, it originally crushed a ball. There used to be a couple 3D VHS videos called Odessy and Voyage if I recall. Some of the shorts there called "Short Circuits" and were shown on TV in Canada for several years on YTV. Several of the videos on the Pixar shorts DVD are there as well.

So... you might find this interesting I hope this gets seen by the casters as well: America was not named after the map maker Amerigo Vespucci it was named after Richard Ameryk who was from Bristol. He was the chief investor in the second transatlantic voyage of John Cabot (also known as Giovanni Caboto) Waldseemuller's assumption that it was named after Amerigo is wrong. I mean also if you think about it, it wouldnt make any sense for it to be named after Amerigo Vespucci because because places are named based on last names(Pennsylvania, Cook Island, Austin) not first names. America would have ended up being called 'Vespuccia or something like that #mindblown

I realise now that they were not perhaps the best examples, they were just what I could immediately think of. Please see this list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_places_named_after_people) for a list of all places named after people in the USA, quite a number of them are named for the first name.

    • bortlp

Louisiana and Georgia are bad examples of this since they are both named after monarchs who, during that time period, technically didn't have last names. Odenton, MD however is named after Oden Bowie, a former Governor of MD. But I would not call Odenton a major example.

    • MrMensa7

Good point, but not all places are named after last names Louisiana and Georgia would be two major examples of places named after first names.

About the "Could one person commit genocide back then?" I remember hearing about a thing that happened during the early colonization of the Americas. I think it was three (but it may have been a few more, not many) Europeans slaughtered a entire civilization within a few days, because none of the the American civilization's weapons could even dent the Europeans' steel armor.
