This podcast reminds me of when I'm a guest at somebody else's house for supper and they join hands to say grace, I actually step away from the table and wait until they're finished. I don't touch people I don't trust and I don't pray (not that I have a problem with people praying, it's just that I don't).

Didn't know about the life flight accident. Unfortunately in general EMS is very dangerous, what with people shooting at us, robbing us, and infectious diseases. Thank you for the respect and kind words guys.

I was literally dumped right after the part where Gus suggested they should have a relationship podcast. It was interesting but Burnie's words are helpful.

So not the greatest shout out but it was pretty neat to hear Barrie Ontario mentioned! I remember hearing about those kids... got a good chuckle out of that. When Burnie started talking about the story I was like... wait a minute... this is sounding familiar. Then he said Barrie and all was confirmed! My city's one mention in Rooster Teeth history is regarding lost druggies. Awesome :P

We played kickball ALL the way into Sophomore year of High School. We had the big old gymnastics boxes they use for landing pads and used them as bases. It was actually one of the few things I did in gym class that I was always excited about.

After reading through the comments, I just wanted to add that banks are required to file Currency Transaction Reports for any cash transaction (withdrawl or deposits) of over $10,000. This is used to prevent tax evasion, money laundering, and in some ways drug trafficking. If you suddenly come into $3 million, the government wants to know how you got it. If you deposit $3 million over the course of months $9,999 at a time, it's extremely suspicious. I'm not saying it's right to seize money based purely on transaction histories from banks, but it provides a solid foundation for investigation.

Brandon's insecurity and need for everyone to like him is really sad, all his appearances on the podcast lately have really brought it to light...

He even worries that when his dog is running in his sleep that his dog is dreaming about Brandon chasing him that would cause his dog to be upset at him.

Get that dude some help, out at least give him a hug...

i went through a period of my life, id say a good 4 months, which doesnt seem like much compared to the 20 years ive been on this earth. but in those 4 months i had constant sleep paralysis. the first time i had it it was exactly how burnie described it. i couldnt move and i thought someone was in the corner of the room. also it was a terrible coincidence that a few days before i experience sleep paralysis for the first time, i came across the lovely story about slender man. so for the first month i was so frighted to go to sleep cause i thought slender man was haunting me. though eventually i looked into it and found out it was sleep paralysis yet i still had them every night. the next 3 months i had sleep paralysis so much to the point where i knew in my paralyzed state that i was having sleep paralysis and instead of trying to wake up id just go back into deep sleep. long story short, it is not a fun experience but u can overcome it.

I didn't like Burnies reaction to Blaine's prozac comment. It felt dismissive. I understand Burnie not wanting to talk about such sensitive topics like Depression, but saying "Nobodies that depressed" hit me hard in the guts. I, and many people I know have struggled with depression. There's a lot of stigma against mental illness and it felt like Burnie was contributing to that.

    • DaveRen

that's a really good point, it's just the way that he phrased his reply. I appriciate you taking the time to write all that.

    • InvaderZen FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Its entirely possible one or more of them has, many online personalities have. Hes referring to what they were discussing in that podcast, not anything outside of it. Plus if you work for rooster teeth you have to have some pretty think skin, a Prozac joke shouldn't take you down if you work there. More importantly, the context is four guys drinking on a show associated with a dark humor site, nothing they say should be taken so seriously that it affects how people view mental illness. I get that you took it a different way, that's fine, I'm just trying to point out some other aspects of the matter.

    • DaveRen

I'm just saying thats how it felt to me, plus how does he know no one there has dealt with depression?

    • InvaderZen FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

It sounded like he was referring to the of four on stage and definitely not everyone in world. As in none of them needed Prozac to deal with the topics they were discussing. Saying hes trivializing depression seems like reading way too much into a joke about how much depressing content was brought up in one podcast. It wasn't meant as a statement about how no one could be depressed enough to need Prozac.

A previous answer to Structuring hit some key points, but isn't the entire story. And is incorrect when there was mention of "all transactions". The $10000 limit refers specifically to Currency Transactions. All other transactions fall under different terms and investigation parameters.
Also, the bank employee who advised the customer to keep deposits under a certain amount is an absolute idiot. That employee is now set up for instant termination and possible blacklisting from a banking career.

Structuring is a pretty serious thing in the banking world. It is under the guidelines of the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti Money Laundering Program(enacted in 1970). All banks are required to file Currency Transaction Reports for Cash transactions(Only Currency, not checks) that aggregate to or are over $10000. Regularly performing cash transactions just under this limit or having multiple similar cash transactions can be seen as an attempt to avoid this report. This type of activity falls in line with patterns of money launderers. And while the IRS can use such reports for possibly tracking tax evasion, the reports are actually sent to the US Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, which compiles all the reports into something that is searchable by government agencies such as the IRS, FBI, and police departments. And, as seen by the program's title, it is primarily geared towards identifying and stopping money launderers, which in turn puts a stop to funding for illegal drugs, weapons, trafficking, or funding towards terrorism.

Hehe, no worries. Didn't want people to all of a sudden think banks were monitoring everything they do. Well, in some cases, they are, but if you're not doing anything wrong, chances are the bank's not watching you. I work in the field, so I've read a lot of training material on this stuff.

Curvature of the Earth does not come into play because you are using line of sight - your eyes have already bypassed those calculations. A mortar or artillery might have that issue 'cause you're calling out locations and anything GPS guided would absolutely have to deal with it, but snipers are line of sight. That's not to say that curvature of the Earth is not meaningful at those distances - bridges that long have to take it into account.

    -----------------------------------

The reason for the Structuring rule is that the banks are set up so that they must report any and all transactions over $10K to the IRS as those tend to be transactions of sufficient significance that the IRS will want to validate it come tax time. If you have numerous transactions *just* below the 10K line, it could be an indication that you are intentionally avoiding that 10K limit. If you're dealing with, say, paychecks, those are being recorded anyways so those aren't going to really hit an IRS flag but someone who's running their own business, you generally don't have the paperwork going constantly. It makes sense as a way to charge people who were also being investigated for tax evasion or money laundering charges if you can't prove the latter but have strong reasons to suspect but this is clearly a case of a well-intentioned law being abused for a non-relevant scenario

  • JLamp391 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

After reading the article on the FBI seizing money, I have to say that the real person at fault seems to be the bank employee that told the store owner to make deposits under 10K. There is a reason for that additional paperwork. Not only does it help cache money laundering operations, but intentionally dodging it can also bust you for tax evasion. In fact, the suspicious activity report was almost certainly filed by someone else at the bank, as they are trained to do so if they notice something. Seems like a lack of communication on their part.
