HOLY BLOODY ALL THE EXCLAMATIONS. Rooster Teeth is in Australia for the first Australian RTX. Let me repeat.
There is an official convention – in AUSTRALIA – that's for Rooster Teeth fans.
Six years ago, I learned that Matt, Geoff, and Griffon would be coming to Sydney, Australia for a pop culture convention a few months later. I was a huge fan of RT, but I didn’t want to go to the convention alone. It was then that it hit me – maybe there are others who might not want to go alone either..?
I created a forum and scoured every single Australian group on the site. I made a template paragraph of text, and off I went – posting a comment on every single profile, inviting them to the forum – to the event. Little did I know that some of the best friends I’ll ever have, and greatest people I’ll ever know, would come from that.
The following year (a few months after), the event came and so did my new friends. From all over Australia, people had come to see Rooster Teeth, but more excitedly (to me) about 20 people had also come to meet their new friends from the Internet. A few days later, the RTOZ concept was born. A few months after that – Roo Teeth was formed, and it’s been expanding ever since.
My passion for the community and bringing people together was solidified that weekend, and I knew that I was going to use my savings to go to the first Rooster Teeth run fan event in Austin, TX (the unofficial first RTX). Myself, LepraSaun and indiefaerie F5’d till we were blue, and finally one of us got the 3 tickets – we were ready.
I have a recap journal somewhere in this website, but I’m struggling to find it. In lieu of that – I have this gem – one of my favourite memories of the whole trip: The three of us reading for Tucker, Tex, and Sister.
With a Facebook group with over 3,500 members, the Roo Teeth staff work tirelessly to ensure the mission of the group – BELONGING – is never left out of any event or interaction.
They coordinate Australian Rooster Teeth Street Team events across the country, an RTOZ every year and have a brand new, even more interactive, event on the horizon.
It’s been out of this world. Not to mention having the incredible opportunity to grow with, and contribute to, the Australian and New Zealand RT distributor, Hanabee. Without their support – I don’t know how far we’d have gotten.
I don’t know about you, but I never thought this would happen. I had no idea, not even an inkling, that the community would grow and strengthen the way that it has – in Australia and the world - and I am so bloody proud and excited that by showing our unwavering dedication, passion, and commitment to Rooster Teeth, we could help spawn an RTX of our very own.
So, at the first RTX Australia, please have the most wonderful time in the entire world. Take photos, have fun, buy merch, be safe, get your drink on, but most importantly – make new friends! You never know what you’ll achieve together, and they might be just the best you’ve mates you’ve ever had.
