      Celebrate the great slate update!

Are we making more Red vs. Blue? OH HELL YES! And we're incredibly excited for this season -- which will be an ANTHOLOGY! Yep, RvB14 will be a collection of shorts and mini-series, telling a wide variety of tales from all over the different eras and corners of the RvB universe. We'll be taking all sorts of approaches to the stories, from machinimating in various generations of Halo, to different types of 2D and 3D animation, and even stop-motion! Better yet, we've invited a bunch of Rooster Teeth's friends to come play -- we'll see interpretations of RvB from such geektastic greats as Rocket Jump's Freddie W., iZombie's Chris Roberson with Allison Baker, Joe Nicolosi, the Game Grumps, Ready Player One author Ernest Cline, as well as contributors from all over the Rooster Teeth family! Check out the teaser, and at the end of this journal post, you can score a collection of all-new RVB WALLPAPERS that hint at some of the upcoming stories!

      RvB 14 teaser here:

Time to enroll for the most demented, dysfunctional, sports-theater-space-magic-adventure-science-dance-music summer camp you've ever heard of -- Camp Campbell!, Camp Camp! Today's video was merely a tease of the chaos to come, but one thing we can tell you is these kids and their counselors are definitely not kid-friendly. Get hyped, thugs.

      Camp Camp teaser here:

RWBY Volume 4 will premiere this Fall! But to tide you over 'til then, we're excited to present a brand-new RWBY show, debuting this May!! Meet RWBY Chibi! If you want a sooperdooper advance sneakpeek at the show, then (ahemahem) you might want to consider (coughcough) catching the RWBY Volume 1 Tugg Screening happening at a movie theater near you on April 27th! Find out the true answer to "What Is Kawaii!?!"

      RWBY Chibi teaser here:

Greetings from the very final audio mix session of RWBY Volume 3. As I type this, Kerry and I are at the mix house, hearing the final lines of the season, the last music cues, seeing the last... everything! Can't believe we're already here.

ThankyouthankyouTHANK YOU to all of you who have stuck with the show, who supported the team through all last year and through this production. Thanks for all the love and reactions and questions last weekend, as we've been having to get these tough moments of the story out there. To see the audience care as fiercely as we do about these characters and what they're going through is an experience we'll never forget.

...but yeah.'s time to end the season. You want to hang out to say goodbye to it? Here's what's up:

NOON CST - RWBY-THEMED "FREE PLAY!" Lindsay & I chat with Meg about how the season is wrapping up and will show an exclusive scene from Chapter 12 early! Then Miles & Kerry join us as CRWBY is pitted against the FP gang in 4v4 art combat!

3PM CST - RWBY 3 MARATHON HYPESTREAM! Join cast & crew for a PUBLIC LIVESTREAM as we hang out and watch all of Chapters 1-11 to get ready for the finale! We'll do some live commentary about the episodes, answer some questions from viewers on the #RWBY hashtag, and... well, there are probably going to be a lot of group hug therapy sessions.

6PM CST - FINALE OF THE ANIME TEST PODCASTS! Please note that the last live sponsorcast of the anime test show is moving an hour later! Sun... er, Mogar... er Michael Jones is going to sit in with Miles, Kerry, and me as we get into all things anime. Come listen to the most important political debate of the year -- y'know, Pokemon v Digimon v Yokai Watch! And we're being told that maybe, just maybe, we'll be able to make an announcement about the fate of the podcast during the show. Honestly, we know as much as you right this sec - find out when we do!

...hey, you do know that Burnie & Ash debut on CBS' "The Amazing Race" Friday night? Check yo listings!)

10AM CST - RWBY CHAPTER 12 available for sponsors! Not a sponsor and don't want to spend all weekend having the ending spoiled for you? Well, go fix that now before it's too late!! Then be ready to melt Adam's servers one last time. Muwahahaaa!

MIDDAY - The recording of the Anime test podcast will be posted for sponsors! We'll make some noise online to let you know when it's up. Yes, we do linkdumps, they appear a little after the page has gone live! No, we don't know yet what the fate of this podcast is or whether these episodes will be made public. So, uh, again, you could always go here and not worry about it. :)

Then Chapter 12 will go public on RT Sunday at 10am, and on YouTube a week later. ...Youtubers, are you really going to be able to wait a whole week? And stay spoiler-free? Really? You sure?

On behalf of everyone here at RT, thanks again for getting us through some tough times and for watching Volume 3. Much love...

    • Keep Moving Forward: RWBY Production Art

On behalf of the entire RT Animation Department, please accept a heartfelt thanks for all your kind thoughts today. And please forgive us if we've been a little quiet.

But we thought it would be a good day to start making good on our promise to continue the tradition of posting new turnarounds and details for the cosplayers and fan artists out there. We've added a full set of angles for both Qrow and Winter in the "Images" tab in the RWBY group, and will continue to add more characters and weapons over time.

Meanwhile, go do something creative, and please share with us if you get the chance.

      With love,

      The RWBY Crew

    • More on the Anime Test Podcasts!

So, that was fun! Thanks to everyone who watched our first test -- both the live stream as well as the recording! And thanks for all the love! The feedback, anime recommendations, and discussion ideas have been overwhelming, and we're still going through them. Please note we've added a link dump for episode 0.001 to the video page, and will keep doing that going forward.

Next one is this Friday, 1/29, LIVE here at at 5pm Central! The recording will be posted the next day. These test episodes will continue to remain Sponsor-only content, at least until the future of the show is determined. So if you're not already a sponsor, consider signing up or at least using the 30 day trial period! And then make some noise about what you like or not!

On episode 0.002 we'll be covering a variety of news and recent viewings, and we'll also get deeper into "Erased" and "Gate" with our guest Cole Gallian. We're also going to start a poll on Twitter this Thursday 1/28, listing the top 4 anime you've suggested we watch. At the end of Friday's livestream, we'll announce the show that got the most votes. Whatever wins, we'll go watch at least the first 3 episodes and then discuss it on episode 0.003!

Kerry, Miles and I are having a blast with this. We're really excited to talk more about this stuff with you.

"What! Another RWBY cliffhanger?! You bastards! And World of Remnant is next, too -- we have to wait another week until the next chapter??? It's like you enjoy toying with us!"

...Well, yes. Yes, we do. But that's not important today! No! Instead we come to distract you with offerings of...

...huh, ok, so that's a little wordy. We already have our first note on what we need to fix, cool.

Want to catch up together on all things anime, while we wait for the next RWBY to hit? Then be back here on TODAY 1/22 at 5pm Central for the very first test episode!

The plan is to start this weekend and then do 3 more weekly tests after that, which would get us to the RWBY season finale weekend (want to be our Valentine?). These test podcasts will be available for sponsors only, both the live broadcast as well as the recorded version we release later. (No, we don't know if these tests will be made public later, so if you're not a sponsor and want to check 'em out, you know what to do!) After the test streams, if all goes well, we'll tweak things based on what seemed to work or not, and start the show for real!

On this first stream, it'll be Miles, Kerry, and me, catching up on what we've been watching lately, what we're looking forward to in this new Spring broadcast season, and then we'll talk about a certain writer/director whose work all three of us love. We'll also cover what types of anime each of us are into (or not) so you know where each of us is coming from. And then in future episodes, we'll start bringing guests in as well!

We also may or may not steal beer from the Off-Topic set. ...What the heck would an anime 'cast set serve, anyhow, bubble tea? Can we place an order for some unfiltered sake now, maybe? ...Maybe we'll draw straws to see who has to wear the cafe maid outfit. Maybe we'll make sure Kerry draws the short straw. Whose underwear should we stock in the vending machine? Join us to find out.

      ja ne!

P.S. Now if only we had a name for it. *tsk* If only there was a comment section below this post, where somebody cool could help us with that, as well as ask us questions or give us suggestions of what to start watching. Hm hm hmmm...

    • On RWBY and Viewer Discretion...

TLDR: If you are responsible for a very young viewer, you may want to start watching RWBY episodes yourself before deciding to show it to a child.

Funny thing happened as RWBY Volume 1 began to air, that we were not anticipating at all, being some of the biggest jackasses on the net. We started getting all sorts of messages from big sisters and brothers, babysitters, parents, and the occasional Qrow-like cool uncle or aunt. They were letting us know how much the very young were enjoying watching RWBY, and how cool it was to share that experience with them. I've lost count how many times at cons or screenings, where an older viewer introduced us to a young child, dressed as their favorite character, loaded up with all sorts of thoughtful questions and ideas. Suddenly, Rooster Teeth had something resembling their first family show on their hands. Don't know who thought trusting us with *that* would be a good idea, but here we are. ;)

Have we said thanks lately? Thanks again for sharing the story with our youngest audience members out there, it means a lot to us and we take the responsibility to heart. In return, we wanted to take a sec to reiterate some things. We've said from the very beginning that the story of RWBY is actually a pretty long journey, with all sorts of complex changes and themes over time. Because we can only put out so many episodes per year, and the story has been focused the way it has the first couple years, some viewers might assume that this is all there is to the show. Nnnnope. Much like other multi-year narratives such as the Harry Potters, Avatars (the airbending kind. well, the animated, not the live... look, the good one) and Star Wars...Warses... Warii? Forget it -- like other continuity-heavy sagas out there, RWBY will grow up over time. Our characters will be put to the test as the stakes get greater and the full scope of the story is revealed. The tone and imagery of the show will occasionally go darker and more mature. ...You did happen to notice the opening sequence that has been in front of the show all year, right?

So that's all. Don't want to make a huge deal out of it, nor make other viewers out there think that this is a spoilery conversation either, to happen to mention it right this second -- we have a wayyyys to go, and we've been talking about this in the "behind the scenes" materials and at the panels since the beginning. We just wanted to put another, more prominent, friendly reminder out there before more time went by. Much like life, RWBY has so much wonderful light to it yet, but where there's light there's also shadow. We hope you're looking forward to seeing how our animated friends rise to the occasion, as much as we are.

Happy New Year! Please join us for the return of RWBY Volume 3 tomorrow, and we'll have more RT Animation goodness to talk about soon.

RWBY Volume 3 is here! On behalf of the crew, thanks for all the kind words today. We're thrilled to finally be able to share the new episodes with you.

      A few reminders for ya!

The release rhythm: RWBY Volume 3 will run at 10am U.S. Central Time Saturday mornings -- more Saturday morning 'toons, wooo! The Saturday release is exclusively for Rooster Teeth Sponsors! Not a sponsor yet? You can join the family here, eh? Then 24 hours later, 10am Sunday Central time, it will open to the public on RT as well as begin running on our partner sites (Crunchyroll, Hanabee, etc.). YouTube will get the episodes one week after they premiere on RT.

The calendar: as mentioned previously, please note that Rooster Teeth is not putting out any new episodes of any show the weekend of November 7th, in order to focus on our special charity livestream event for ExtraLife. So Chapter 2 will run next weekend, October 31st, then there's the livestream, then Chapter 3 runs November 14th. And we still have 3 more "World of Remnant" episodes to mix in throughout our 12 chapter run as well! RWBY addicts need not fret about that livestream weekend, though -- you'll still get your fix when the RWBY gang takes over the stream! We'll talk about the first couple episodes, maybe play the current build of RWBY:Grimm Eclipse, and if we raise enough funds for the charity, maybe sneak you some footage of scenes to come!

Last announcement for the moment -- everyone please welcome voice actor superstar Yuri Lowenthal (Ben from "Ben 10," and Jor-El, Jimmy Olsen, and Red Robin in all the latest animated DC Universe adventures -- oh, ha, and "boy" from X&V!) to the cast of RWBY, taking on the part of Mercury Black! Special thanks to JJ Castillo for having helped launch the character - everyone please wish him best of luck and check out what he's up to these days in the world of VR development!

We had a gathering last night at Rooster Teeth, people from all over the company joined us to screen Chapter 1. It was a special moment to watch this new first episode together. Monty, you were supposed to be there. Maybe you were. We hope we did ok. We miss you.

    • RWBY Volume 3 Opening Animation - and more!

The hypetrain to RWBY Volume 3 rolls on!! We had an incredible time hanging with all the fans at NYCC2015, where we confirmed the Volume 3 premiere date of October 24th for Rooster Teeth sponsors, public October 25th. Here's a recap of what we've announced so far:

We've released the first clip from RWBY Volume 3!

3zero's Blake collectible figure goes up for pre-sale Monday October 19th!

You can now vote YES for RWBY: Grimm Eclipse video game to get a green light for availability on Steam!

Go to Harmonix's Rock Band DLC request page and demand your favorite Jeff Williams RWBY songs!

The next episode of Screw Attack's Death Battle comes out on October 20th, featuring an all-out brawl between FFVII's Tifa Lockhart and Yang! Featuring the actual voice actresses!

And today, on this month's Rooster Teeth Community Day, we present... RWBY Volume 3's Intro with brand new track from Jeff and Casey Lee Williams, "When It Falls!!" Sorry-Not-Sorry if the song gets stuck in your head the way it has in ours.

9 days til the season premiere! Speaking of the release schedule, we wanted to pass along something we talked about at NYCC -- Rooster Teeth is participating in the Extra Life charity stream on Saturday, November 7th, and it will be the best livestream yet! However, this means Rooster Teeth as a whole will focus on the stream that day and will not be releasing new episodes of any show. So please note that on that date, while you may not get a new episode, RWBY cast and crew will take over that stream for a part of the show, where we'll talk about how the season is starting, show you some upcoming scenes, and maybe play some of the video game. Y'know, for the kids!

      More teases to follow ;)

Which has been your favorite role: Locus or Torchwick, and why?

Aw man, how am I supposed to answer something like that when they're both such fun characters to play with? How about this -- I'm pretty damned charmed by Torchwick, he's the epitome of the scoundrel-you-love-to-hate. And I'm reeeally looking forward to all the different places I think he's going to go, character-development-wise. Locus is badass to the core -- cold, disciplined, masters any weapon he might ever need -- and it's a trip to get into that mode of thinking, to project that you have that level of control. So, I'm just thrilled I get to bounce between those different sounds depending on who we're recording that day...

      newer version
I am interested in providing Monty and the rest of Team RWBY, with ideas and was wondering if you could recommend me. I am putting one of my earlier ideas below. Tell me if it is any good.
      This is the updated version
A guy named Lan Jingshen, he uses a pair of long nun chucks with guns at the ends, the nun chucks can connect into a staff, and when connected the guns gain more fire power and can fire in the directions the tips are pointing at. Also it can become a bow if he bends the chains at the right angles. However, his true forte is hand to hand combat. He has high mastery of Aura (Meditates daily to train his Aura), his semblance is manipulation of pure energy, and when using his full strength, blue lines cover his entire body and he gains enhanced abilities. He has messy black hair with azure highlights, wears a pair of glasses that change into a mask when he begins combat, has a blue and black trench coat along with a pair of black pants with two blue steaks running down the sides, and when fighting takes off the coat in this case he wears a blue and black tank top, Also wears black gloves. Height wise he would be a bit taller than Yang. Body is covered with scars of various shapes and sizes due to his frequent fights with High level Grimm. Large tattoo on his back (I’ll send you a rough sketch of it if you like the character). His combat style is formless, and draws from a myriad of martial arts styles. He also has a pet Golden Retriever, the golden retriever enjoys stealing other people’s laundry, and always tries to kiss up to people.
I would also like to put in his personality in case it is (and some back story too). A calm cool guy, who's always the peacemaker, and is very devoted to whatever he sets his mind to, he would also be very learned, polite, and versatile ( able to use most weapons if necessary) Doesn't speak very loudly, and is sometimes ignored. Very good at making friends and is rather social, in a detached way ( but although there are many who he calls friend, before he met team RWBY there were none he truly believed to be his friend, except his master). Believes that the best way for a person to become stronger and learn is for them to experience things themselves, so he often keeps knowledge to himself, even if it would be beneficial for the other person to know. He is wise far beyond his years, one of the main reasons he came to Beacon was to find that “special someone†his grandpa always told him about. I think it would be humorous if he developed a crush on Yang, and as a result becomes very awkward and a bit clumsy whenever she is near. He also trains in a lot of his spare time in fact his daily regime is kill 10 powerful Grimm a day. Back story is that he woke up by the sea when he was 4 with no memory, he is found by the nearby villagers and is taken care of, during this time he almost lived in local library, and educated himself there. He later meets a man who would become his teacher; a white tiger Faunus named Brom Silverfang, who was a founding member of White Fang, but left after some of the organizations more brutal operations. Lan makes his nun chuk/staff/ gun from parts found in a dump in a city he travels to. He also learns a variety of skills on his travels (cooking, clothes making, engineering, zoology, etc.) but has almost zero pop culture knowledge. During his travels, he joined White Fang for a few months and also was employed by the Schnee company for a few years (currently owns some of its high value stocks), in both cases he learned many of the secrets in both organizations. He also has experience in the underground crime world (learning the ways of the street). I think it would also be fun if at one point he encountered Yang and Ruby before they were adopted, because this could help them connect later in. Later in his travels with his master (when he is around 15) he discovers an ancient piece of technology called INDEX, and after gaining more mastery of his AURA he uses INDEX as a base to create a weapon called the ERUDITE ARMORY, which can transform into any weapon he knows how to make (able to fill the sky with a menagerie of different armaments). It is very heavy and difficult to use so he doesn't use it often, because of the massive amount of aura it consumes while in use. His master is later killed by a giant Grimm know as Shade the Eighth Terror (Shade cannot be harmed by purely physical attacks, and that is all Brom had , even though they were super powerful physical attacks that were able to cleave mountains), but by that time Lan was skilled enough to kill it with his Aura infused ERUDITE ARMORY. When the Shade died, part of its essence infected Lan, and slowly eats away at his soul, because of this his AURA was greatly weakened and now can only use the ERUDITE ARMORY for 30 seconds a day. However, Brom’s soul entered into Lan as well and helps him keep SHADE at bay (the downside is Lan now has the crazy, perverted old man yammering at him 24/7). Was noticed by BEACON and gained a combat scholarship just like RUBY after saving a group of elite hunters from high class monsters (this was before he battled with the SHADE, which took place 3 months before he was going to transfer to BEACON). Currently he is much weakened due to the SHADE’s essence infecting him (sometimes causing to lose control of himself and turning into a half-Grimm state), his current combat ability (without using the armory) is slightly higher than Pyrrha’s. Right now is trying to control the Grimm inside.
He is 17 or 18 years old.

Those are Vectrex (gray colored) game console boxes on the shelf behind Kerry in the RvB behind the scenes, right? Are those yours, or did someone else bring them in?

Also, you aren't on the Cast&Crew page here on the site yet, so you may want to look into that.

Yeah, I don't know how at first I totally missed the Vectrex system sitting clearly between you guys. I had an Atari 2600 then eventually a NES back in the day, but I don't remember ever hearing about the Vectrex back then. After doing some research into gaming history over the past few years, I happened to run across a complete-in-box Vectrex at a local game shop last year and picked it up. Early this year, I snagged an almost complete collection of the more common titles for the system, plus the uncommon 3D Viewer and its games, all boxed. I'm still looking for a good deal on a complete Light Pen set, which has always come up when I have no money. Of course there's the crazy rare things that I'll likely never see, like the Dark Tower prototype, plus the multitude of homebrews that I probably won't pursue, so my collection will not likely ever be truly "complete"

Hey there- Yep, that would indeed be the well-loved and (much to my amazement) still fully-functional Vectrex system you see on the shelves in those videos. I credit much of my proficiency on Geometry Wars to having roots in games like MineStorm, etc. :) What you're not seeing in those BTS vids are all the toys and art and other gaming souvenirs I had scattered around my desk & shelving for the duration of production. We shot those videos right as the season was winding down and we were rearranging the soundstage and setting up for new projects. My area tends to be decently organized but not *that* free of chaos as you see there...

Nope, not currently listed as full RT C&C, as that tends to be reserved for permanent employees. It takes about a half-year to produce a season of RvB, and the way the last couple have gone, after RvB wraps for the year I've tended to go off and shoot movies, write scripts, or do VFX for other projects (or of course come back to RT for shorter-term projects). But maybe one of these days... who knows?

        Take care,
