I love the service, I've been a fan since RVB S1 and once I turned 18 and had money I paid for a sponsorship. Been a subscriber for years.
Here's why I paid for the service
Live-Streams - I always loved the interaction between RT Live streams and the audience.
Watching Videos early
Price point - very cheap
Here's why I'm cancelling:
For the past 18 months I haven't been able to watch a live-stream without big interruption
There just isn't an authentic feeling live interaction with the audience.I really like seeing Burnie cuss some idiot out on twitter or read them out. Even if it wasn't me it was engaging, because they often had a similar thing to say as me.
It takes high speed bandwidth to watch them. I'm a single male working 23 year old. Like a lot of your audience I'm from Australia. I pay for the highest speed internet available to me. If I have nothing using my bandwidth and if it's a good day I can watch the podcast.
This just isn't an issue on YouTube with my favourite live-stream Joe Rogan. I frequently pick JRE over RT at clashing time simply because I know it will work, and in 720p.
The site just doesn't seem to throttle down for lower resolution streams, and it can take ages to switch if I'm lucky. It frequently just doesn't switch.
I am sure that this isn't just an isolated situation for you're audience. Love the shows. As I'm watching right now the off topic podcast is freezing.
It makes me upset that there's so much advertising now and I can't enjoy the show at all. I've asked for an audio only version, why can't we have this? Why is this not available, it's clear there isn't any effort to fix this issue for users like me.
Watching Videos Early:
The original reason I subscribed was to watch videos early. This use to be fine at my old location with abnormally good internet, 100mbit down.
I haven't watched any RT shows for a year now and here's why.
On release night it's like it uses more bandwidth, and I cannot switch it from 1080p HD to 720 or 480p Or to 240p.
Some of the old videos on the site are unplayable, and thanks to the new system where videos only buffer while being played it either ruins the experience or isn't playable.
The technical issues of a service I pay for is just not worth the stress anymore. It's not the price point. I might pay for DVD's but I'm just losing interest in all RT content after all the technical issues, I'm just tired of trying to watch the content.
Meanwhile I can watch stuff on Netflix in HD fine, YouTube live-streams in HD fine. I play games online, use PSN, Xbox Live fine. I use remote desktop fine, I am very tech savvy and work on events around these types of issues frequently. I know my stuff, I'm a big fan but I'm just tired of trying to watch it.
