Only three months since the last journal entry, not bad at all.
So what has inspired me to make a journal entry today? Well recent events have, as seems to be a consistent theme in 2016, kinda sucked and more than ever there have been calls to stick together and support each other. To be very fair the Rooster Teeth community does this regardless (you are all amazing people) but there, more than ever, is a desire for the 'real'. Actually meeting up and doing stuff.
In August, after attending a few Rooster Teeth UK meets and seeing that there wasn't a regular opportunity for any section of our localised community to get involved with us for the first time or catch up with old friends, I decided to take the initiative and create the RTUK London Monthly Meet - the basic idea being that we would initially travel to a part of London during the day then return to a 'hub' spot for evening activities such as quizzing.and general socialising. As November's rendition approaches I can now confidently say that the meet attracts at least 25-30 community members per meet across the day which to me is mind blowing given that the concept is so young still.
No doubt such a healthy turnout is in part due to location - London is a central location for many and boasts an incredibly large population. Every meet there are always new faces though, every meet there are different people dependent on availability. If real life didn't get in the way I can't imagine how busy the meets would be and this fills me with incredible pride. I made this, people enjoy it and want to come back for more. With such positive feedback comes confidence and to this end I ended up hosting the pre-meet up for London's RWBY Volume 3 screening also.
This month I debut the brand new RTUK London Movie Night where a bunch of us will be ending the problem of finding friends to go and see a new film with by seeing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them together as a community group at the O2 Arena. An idea that popped up in my head during a shopping trip; inspired by Achievement Hunter's Theater Mode.
So why tell you all this? I hope to inspire as many of you as possible to take the initiative - take that lead role and find friends local to you to benefit all of you. It may be three individuals, it may be twenty but no matter how many are eager to meet up with fellow RT fans you will all share something in common. It could end up that you find regular gaming partners, regular pub friends, you might even find a date for next week! Yet whatever form these people take you can rest assured that you have found people local to you who you can support and will support you.
That feeling certainly gives me excitement going into the weekend and I hope it does with you too.
If any of you have any questions about the meets I host, how I got involved with RT myself or just anything really then please feel free to post down below - I'll be more than happy to aid my fellow community members!
Until the next one, stay strong and keep being amazing.
