I've been wanting to write up this journal for a little while now, but I've been having trouble figuring out how best to start it. Please bear with me.
Last August I proposed to by girlfriend, she said yes and we're on course to be married this August. One year to the day that I proposed to her, and with the wedding coming up, and getting our guest list together I can't help but think of the impact that this community had.
And this is where this journal becomes story time...
I've been a fan of RvB since somewhere around season 2 or 3. I was in high school and watched them with a friend on mine all the time. I eventually made a free account on the community site. I lurked in a couple of forums a little bit, but really didn't use it all that much.
A few years later, while in University I started posting on more things, eventually upgraded to a sponsor account, and finally became relatively active on here.
I started talking in the forums regularly, and became friends with people online some of whom I've still never met in person. Although many of these friendship have always and likely always will be online, I've had many great conversations with these people.
Then in 2014, I made a decision on a whim to go to RTX. I would be going alone so I booked a hotel room and found a few forum threads for people doing the same. I've been to many conventions, but that was without doubt one of the best, if not the best I've ever been too.
I still talk to those who I roomed with, and the guys from down the hall who we hung out with, and have managed to visit with a few of them in the years since. I now have friends across the globe. @Ember @ShadowSham @billiejade @stxrlesseyes @windomxv55 and @HayWoodYouBlowMe just to name a few...I could keep going but I don't really want to tag that many people. If I didn't tag you, I am sorry. I'm at work and just skimmed my friends list for the first ones I saw from that year.
However one other person of note from that year, is my future wife. She lived in St. Paul and I'm from Winnipeg, in Canada. the RT site became one of our main methods of communication, and a common interest to bond over.
Without this site, it's production, and community I would never have made the amazing friendships I have now, nor would I have met the woman I love and intend to spend the rest of my life with.
I may never get to say it them in person, but I wish I could thank the founders and creators; @burnie , @geoff , @matt and @gus . I also would like to make an additional thank you to Geoff and @Gavino because while I got into RT from RvB, my fiance got in because of the Minecraft let's plays. Specifically the one where Gavin's trophy room was first shown. That moment got her hooked.
Without all these things my life would likely look pretty different right now. RT and its community is amazing, and I just felt the need to share those thought and my appreciation to all your folks. Not only am I getting married because of this, but It's inspired me to do my own fun and creative projects. If you read this whole thing, thank you. I am both grateful and kind of impressed.
I look forward to more good times with the RT communit, see you guys in 2017.
